Pop-up store in the opulent Palazzo Citterio

Swarovski in Milan’s elegant artists’ quarter Brera

18.06.2024

Swarovski's spectacular exhibition “Masters of Light” has opened in Milan‘s recently restored Palazzo Citterio, to much fanfare. For four weeks in summer, this jewel of eighteenth century architecture will also host a pop-up store offering an exclusive collection to accompany the exhibition.

This historic building’s special features also present unique challenges in terms of furniture and logistics. As Swarovski’s long-term partner, we utilise all of our shopfitting expertise to master the building‘s various quirks, delivering a precision landing within a very tight time frame.

A bespoke wooden boardwalk was laid to smooth the way while delivering the heavy furniture pallets and protect the delicate carpet. Furniture couldn’t be screwed to the floor or the walls, which posed a special challenge in terms of stability. Cabling and lighting also had their complexities due to the limited number of electrical sockets in the space. To fully leverage the available light sources using reflective effects, some of the inside back panels of the furniture were clad with mirror foil. A hidden detail behind a visual converted into a door: A small goods elevator that we were able to recommission thanks to a trick of construction.
